READINESS SURVEY FOR THE SEAMEO COLLEGE PROGRAM
The SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Center (SEAMOLEC) facilitated in the Philippines the conduct of a readiness survey for the SEAMEO College program. The activity was held in September 2012 in cooperation with sister SEAMEO Centers, INNOTECH and SEARCA.
Two SEAMOLEC officials—Mr. Abubakar Alatas, Information Technology Content Officer, and Mr. Yusmar Hadi Saputra, Public Relations and Marketing Officer, facilitated a virtual meeting among SEAMEO Centers and the SEAMEO Secretariat. The exercise aimed to gather information on existing IT infrastructures and communication systems of SEAMEO Centers. At the same time, it sought to try out and evaluate an open source web conferencing system, which SEAMOLEC has proposed to use as the platform for the SEAMEO College program.
In the end, recommendations on how to proceed with the SEAMEO College were drafted, focusing on IT infrastructures and systems requirements, as well as on IT staff development needs.
The SEAMEO College is a flagship program of SEAMEO identified in its Ten-Year Strategic Plan that seeks to foster regular dialogues among top education and HRD leaders, as well as high-level policy makers on relevant issues across the SEA community.
