Teacher motivation is an important factor in improving the quality of education in the region.
In line with SEAMEO INNOTECH’s focus areas for its 10th Year Five-Year-Development Plan, this study aims to identify factors that make teachers stay in the profession, as well as develop a Southeast Asian Framework on Teacher Motivation in Staying in the Profession.
Teacher motivation is defined in this study as what attracts individuals to remain in the teaching profession.
Teachers play a key role in improving the quality of education and enhancing student achievement and learning outcomes. Determining these crucial factors are of great importance in improving our educators’ performance, and ensuring that their stay in the profession.
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) has taken on this project as part of the key areas of focus it has determined for its 10th Five-Year-Development Plan. This study and framework in determining teacher motivation in Southeast Asia was done in partnership with SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational Education and Training (VOCTECH), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education Development (TED), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (QITEP) in Language (SEAQIL), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Community Education Development (CED), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy and Philosophy for Sustainability (SEPS), Ministries of Education of Malaysia and Myanmar, Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of Timor Leste, and the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES).
