INNOTECH, NOTED co-organize Teacher Empowerment Forum
SEAMEO INNOTECH and the Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators, Inc. (NOTED) held the teachers’ forum entitled, “Teacher Empowerment: Rekindling the Joy of Teaching” on 12 October 2017 in Quezon City to celebrate the National Teachers Month. The forum was attended by more than 100 in-service and pre-service teachers.
This year’s forum focused on challenges and issues on teacher burnout, attrition, and retention. Through the inspiring stories of some of the Metrobank Outstanding Teachers, the forum aims to rekindle the teachers’ joy and passion for teaching.
Ms. Josephine M. Calamlam, 1999 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher, Ms. Lynn Zuniga- Padillo, 2008 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher, Dr. Rizal M. Vidallo, 2012 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher (Elementary Level), and Mr. Nelson Agoyaoy, 2016 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher (Secondary Level), talked about sustaining the passion and joy of teaching. They shared memorable teaching stories as they define a passionate teacher.
“A passionate teacher has no ‘sawa’ factor…we will encounter a lot of challenges, but a passionate teacher will go through it all.” Dr. Vidallo said in a panel session.
Dr. Evelina M. Vicencio, 1988 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher, Dr. Arthur P. Casanova, 1999 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher, and Dr. Josefina A. Tuazon, 2000 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher, shared how they battle burnout and rekindle their joy of teaching.
Aside from the stories shared by the panellists, forum participants also had an activity to restore their joy of teaching. Participants had the chance to share what inspire them and keep them on teaching through a hashtag.
