CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
SEAMEO INNOTECH holds today its 13th International Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, with the theme “Educating for the Future We Want: A Green Southeast Asia” at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.
The Conference seeks to explore the many dimensions of education for sustainable development and anchor discussions on lessons learned from the United Nation’s Decade of Education for Sustainable Development; the UN conference on sustainable development (RIO+20) held in June this year; and the pursuit of the ASEAN Vision of a unified Southeast Asian community by 2015.
The Conference will have Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III as keynote speaker to share his administration’s accomplishments in promoting education for sustainable development. President Aquino has initiated a number of reform programs that have contributed to the steady growth in the country’s economy, improved lives through more work opportunities, safer environment and better health services, and stricter environmental protection laws.
Joining the President in this three-day conference are Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro and Senator Loren Legarda, along with experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), the World Wildlife Fund Philippines, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foundation.
